El occipital forma la parte posterior y la base del cráneo y contiene el agujero magno. Su protuberancia externa marca el inion.

Qué es
Protege el lóbulo occipital y el cerebelo. El inion, la referencia posterior del sistema 10-20, es el punto más alto de la protuberancia del occipital en la línea media 1.
Cuánto mide
En 51 cráneos de adultos coreanos, el occipital midió 2,3 mm a 1,5 cm del agujero magno, 5,4 mm a 0,5 cm por encima del inion y 8,2 mm a 2 cm por encima: un mismo hueso con espesores de 2 a 8 mm 2.
Espesor y alfa
En 401 EEG con tomografía o resonancia, la asimetría de amplitud alfa entre O1 y O2 se asoció de forma débil con la diferencia de espesor del cráneo entre ambos lados (Rs = −0,25) 3.
